Weather Conditions

Friday October 15, 2021

Rather cloudy and breezy with a bit of rain; turning colder in the afternoon

Temp: Hi 64˚ Low 41˚

Wind: NW 14-22 mph

This is the day to cover lots of water with a moving baits. This is a Table Rock day. It’s probably too much wind to be effective with topwater so go with a crankbait or a spinnerbait. Use the wind to your advantage and cover lots of water. The fish will be a bit scattered so keep the trolling motor on high and target mixed rock banks that are either flat or steep as well as gravel banks with isolated cover. If you find shad all the better. You can also use a small swimbait in these areas. These are generally shallow aggressive fish.

Plenty of sun

Temp: Hi 63˚ Low 42˚

Wind: NW 7-12 mph

Use a football jig or a Carolina rig to cover long tapering gravel points. The fish could be shallow or deep right now, it just depends on the day. They could be from 5’-35’ deep which can make it a challenge but once they are found they are consistent. Use a Jewel Pee Wee football jig on fish 20’ or less use the Jewel 5/8oz football jig when fishing 20’ deep or more. If using the Carolina rig use a brush hog, baby brush hog or Senko type bait. Contact to the bottom is critical but sometimes the fish will react to a bait being hopped off the bottom a foot or more. If you find ledge rock or brush piles at the roll-off fish will definitely position on those areas. Be prepared to fish a lot of points in a day to get the bites. It is a deal where you get no bites on a couple of points then find 1-2 on one point. There are quality smallmouth being caught.

Plenty of sun

Temp: Hi 70˚ Low 43˚

Wind: SW 5-8 mph

Fish are positioning on the docks when it is sunny. Use a 5/16oz Jewel finesse jig when fishing docks in 12’ of water or less. Use a 1/2oz jig when fishing over 12’ deep. Use the shade line and open dock slip to your advantage to have more areas to fish. The fish can be a shallower or deeper just depending on the day. If you catch a few fish one way stick with that pattern and fish the docks where the same scenario can be replicated.
