Weather Conditions

Friday October 22, 2021

Partly sunny

Temp: Hi 69˚ Low 52˚

Wind: SSW 5-7 mph

The conditions have really gotten tough as we are in full swing fall transition. The most consistent bite on the lake is the dropshot. Once you find the fish they are catchable. The fish can be from 10’-60’ deep right now. Look for active pods of fish using your graph. Once they have been located use a small cut tail worm in purple or plum. Also the shad shape worm is catching a fish. Be prepared to bounce around to find active pods of fish. A great back up bait while doing this is having a Jewel scuba spoon. The slab spoon can certainly trigger bites.

Considerable clouds with a couple of showers

Temp: Hi 72˚ Low 62˚

Wind: SSW 7-12 mph

This is set up as a cover water type of day with clouds all day long. Use a spinnerbait, vibrating jig or crankbait to get bites. It does not seem like the type of bank matters as much as having wind hitting on the banks. This requires covering a lot water to find the bites. This bite is just starting to materialize and will continue to get better over the next few weeks. Cover water hunt the wind and if you see shad pushed into areas all the better. As a backup option have a small swimbait at the ready. Sometimes depending on the day they may prefer that over the spinnerbait.

Intervals of clouds and sun with a couple of drenching thunderstorms in the afternoon

Temp: Hi 73˚ Low 57˚

Wind: SSW 9-15 mph

The football jig bite is really starting to pick up. This is a main lake clearer water deal but the fish are there. Use a football jig to cover long tapering gravel points. The fish could be shallow or deep right now, it just depends on the day. They could be from 5’-35’ deep which can make it a challenge but once they are found they are consistent. Use a Jewel Pee Wee football jig on fish 20’ or less use the Jewel 5/8oz football jig when fishing 20’ deep or more. Contact to the bottom is critical but sometimes the fish will react to a bait being hopped off the bottom a foot or more. If you find ledge rock or brush piles at the roll-off fish will definitely position on those areas. Be prepared to fish a lot of points in a day to get the bites. It is a deal where you get no bites on a couple of points then find 1-2 on one point. There are quality smallmouth being caught.
