Weather Conditions

Friday May 14, 2021

Blend of sun and clouds

Temp: Hi 70˚ Low 50˚

Wind: SSE 7-10 mph

With all the days of sun in a row find the dirty water and power fish. Look for areas of isolated cover and throw crankbaits, chatterbaits or a buzzbait. The isolated cover could be bushes on the bank or logs and laydowns. The more stain in the water the better. Pitch jigs or soft plastics to the flooded cover.

Mostly cloudy with occasional rain or thunderstorm or two

Temp: Hi 66˚ Low 59˚

Wind: S 7-10 mph

First thing in the morning get out the topwater and find active fish. Position the boat 25-35’ deep and cast towards the bank. Go to secondary gravel points the fish should be there. The fish have completed spawning and are keying in on the shad. If the fish don’t commit to the topwater throw the swimbait in the same area.

Sunday May 16, 2021

Warmer with sun and areas of high clouds in the morning followed by clouds and intervals of sunshine

Temp: Hi 73˚ Low 62˚

Wind: SSW 8-13 mph

Shaky head, Ned rig and swimbait will be the only baits need on this day. The water is warming enough that the moss is beginning to break up and go away. Early in the day and while it is cloudy use the swimbait to target the aggressive fish. They could be as shallow as 5’ deep or out to 25’ of water. Use 3/16 or 1/4oz lead head with a Keitech 3.3 in any shad color you prefer. Cast it out and reel it back keeping it from 5-15’ feet deep. If the sun comes out or the bite slows stay in the same areas you were catching fish but switch to the Ned rig or shaky head and keep it on the bottom.
