Weather Conditions

Friday May 7, 2021

Intervals of clouds and sun

Temp: Hi 67˚ Low 55˚

Wind: SSW 6-9 mph

Head for the rivers and power fish. Look for areas of isolated cover and throw spinnerbaits, crankbaits, chatterbaits and even a buzzbait. The isolated cover could be on the bank or logs and laydowns. The more stain in the water the better. If the bite slows try pitching baits such as brushhogs, jigs or a senko to the same areas. This approach will target shallow largemouth.

A morning thunderstorm or two, otherwise cloudy

Temp: Hi 77˚ Low 65˚

Wind: S 9-16 mph

If there is thunder and lightning it may adversely affect the topwater bite due to this target post spawn fish with a swimbait or shakey head.  Position the boat 25-35’ deep and cast towards the bank. Key on longer gravel points. There is a lot of moss on the bottom of the lake right now however finding gravel banks with little to no moss will be the key in finding fish.

Turning colder in the morning with a passing showers and low clouds

Temp: Hi 68˚ Low 44˚

Wind: WNW 9-17 mph

If the wind stays calm that will be the time to throw a topwater. A zara spook (bigger is better), surge shad or a redfin. The surge shad and redfin are better when it is calm or less ripple on the water. There are two things to key on surface activity where the fish are actively feeding on the surface or areas where fish that have spawned are moving back out to deeper water. Secondary gravel points are a good place to look. Keep the boat in 30’ of water and make long casts towards 10’ of water.
