Weather Conditions

Friday October 29, 2021

A morning shower; otherwise, remaining cloudy with the wind subsiding

Temp: Hi 52˚ Low 42˚

Wind: NNW 17-35 mph

Use the nasty conditions to your advantage. Look for areas in the major river and creek arms that have shad. These high winds should really position the shad. Once you find the shad fish shallow less than 10’ deep and use any assortment of moving baits. Spinnerbait (1/2oz white or black) or crankbait (DT6 in a shad color) seem to be the options. Don’t expect a lot of bits in one area but once you find where the fish want to be run that pattern throughout the area.

Sunny and warmer

Temp: Hi 59˚ Low 40˚

Wind: NW 6-9 mph

The big football is really starting to pick up. There are quality smallmouth being caught on the football jig right now. The fish vary in depth on almost a daily basis, but these are smallmouth. They could be from 5’-35’ deep which can make it a challenge but once they are found they are consistent. Use the Jewel 5/8oz football jig and make long casts on the long gravel points. Contact to the bottom is critical.  If you find ledge rock or brush piles at the roll-off fish will definitely position on those areas. Be prepared to fish a lot of points in a day to get the bites. It is a deal where you get no bites on a couple of points then find 1-2 on one point. Sometimes positioning the boat shallow and casting to deeper water will trigger more bites.

Temp: Hi 62˚ Low 40˚

Wind: W 5-8 mph

Sunny post front fall day. Weather is nice but the bite might be tough. Good day to pull out the drop shot to get bites quick.  The fish can be from 10’-60’ deep right now. Look for active pods of fish using your graph. Once they have been located use a small cut tail worm in purple or plum. Also the shad shape worm is catching a fish. The worm has been better than the shad shape, don’t rule out a spoon. The slab spoon can certainly trigger bites. With the deep bite some areas will hold keeper size fish while others will be short fish. This can change daily.
