Weather Conditions

Friday October 8, 2021

Sunny to partly cloudy and warmer

Temp: Hi 86˚ Low 67˚

Wind: S 6-12 mph

The bite has been a bit tougher this week. This could be the day to go with the dropshot. The best two options are the purple worm or a shad imitating bait. Look for group of fish around deeper trees and docks. A good back plan to the dropshot is a small white slab spoon. Use it in the open water or around docks.

Partly sunny and very warm

Temp: Hi 87˚ Low 66˚

Wind: SSW 8-14 mph

Use a football jig to cover long tapering gravel points. The fish could be shallow or deep right now, it just depends on the day. They could be from 5’-35’ deep which can make it a challenge but once they are found they are consistent. Use a Jewel Pee Wee football jig on fish 20’ or less use the Jewel 5/8oz football jig when fishing 20’ deep or more. Contact to the bottom is critical but sometimes the fish will react to a bait being hopped off the bottom a foot or more. If the fish don’t seem to want the football jig try scrubbing a grub in the same areas.

Mostly sunny and remaining warm

Temp: Hi 85˚ Low 66˚

Wind: SWW 8-13 mph

This is the right day so hunt the wind to find a spinnerbait or chatterbait bite. The more wind directly on the bank the better the odds are to get bit. This is another tactic that requires covering a lot of water during the day. There are a couple of things to look for when throwing the spinnerbait—find shade and big or ledge rock. If you can find this type of situation you can catch fish doing this all day long. Also target the backs of creeks where laydowns are present. Do not overlook isolated cedar trees and pole timber as targets to hold a few fish.
