Never fished Table Rock and wanted to get to know the lake some so came down to fish Saturday/Sunday. Reading all of the January reports for the past couple of years it was obvious that we needed to find shad. Launched at Aunts Creek on Saturday. Found multiple schools of shad which is probably why there were quite a few boats in there Saturday afternoon. Ran up James River a couple of mile just to look around and tried to find shad, but couldn't seem to find any. Ran out to mid-lake area to again just look around and possibly find some shad. Shad seemed to be scarce. Had trouble locating where they might be. Threw a-rig, jerkbait and jig when around fish, but no bites. Launched in mid-lake area on Sunday. Graphed some bluff ends and bluff cuts looking for shad, but again didn't find any. Did find a few fish in trees in a bluff cut, but fish were not active and would not pursue a-rig or jerkbait. Ran up towards Baxter area again getting acquainted with the lake. Graphed multiple spots looking for shad, but again couldn't find any. Unfortunately, fishing partner became ill Saturday night and wasn't much better Sunday. Decided it was time to lick our wounds and get him home. Looking forward to actually finding fish and getting bit next trip. |
