Weather Conditions

Friday April 21, 2023
Sun and clouds
Temp: Hi 66˚ Low 40˚
Wind NNW 7-18 mph
The shakey head or a finesse jig bite seems to be lake wide and is a good way to get bites. They should
be on the gravel by this time so that is worth checking. However mixed rock banks with spawning
pockets nearby seem to have fish. Use a bulkier bait like a Senko or a Magnum trick worm. Keep the bait
on the bottom. Focus on finding new areas if you get a bite fish that area thoroughly because there
should be multiple fish in that area. If you get moss on your bait leave that area or use baits that are not
on the bottom. Most fish are shallower that 12’ feet deep. Keeping the boat in 12’-15’ of water is a good
depth.

Saturday April 22, 2023
Partly sunny and cool
Temp: Hi 60˚ Low 36˚
Wind: NNW 9-22 mph
With this being a high wind day plan on going up a river arm and covering lots of water. If in the James
River arm be respectful of crappie and spoonbill anglers. Use a chatterbait and just get to fishing. Look
for larger rock near spawning areas also make plenty of casts to wood cover. Use a 1/2 oz sized bait and
boot tailed trailer. Don’t reel the bait too fast just keep it moving and cover lots of water.

Sunday April 23, 2023
Clouds to start then sunshine
Temp: Hi 59˚ Low 38˚
Wind: N 6-12 mph
Even though the water temps dropped a lot this past week the sun is moving it back to the right
temperature. A new wave of fish should be heading to the bank. With the wind finally getting calm look
for protected spawning pockets to find the fish. Use a white tube on a short drop shot or use a very
compact bait like a Ned. There has not been a lot of quality caught off the beds but there should be
bigger fish moving up to spawn.
