The drop shot is consistent right now, but there are some specific details. The fish are 30’-40’ deep, over depths of 40’-70’. The drop shot fish seem to in trees. Key on areas of trees on larger flats. The fish tend to position around the hardwood trees, especially trees that have a couple of large branches. Use a 1/4oz weight to get the bait to the depth quickly. Use a shad-colored worm or the standard plum. Plum has been working well lately. If you get a bite stay on those fish until they stop biting.
Saturday July 22, 2023
Pleasant and warmer with plenty of sunshine
Temp: Hi 88˚ Low 64˚
Wind: NNW 6-8 mph
The river bite has continued to be good but it’s a day-to-day deal. On the great days you can catch fish all over and the tougher days there are still bites but it’s a more hunt and peck to find them. Use a football jig on channel swing points. These fish are pinned to the bottom but are very aggressive. These fish are 15’-25’ deep. The new Jewel Pee Wee HD Football jig has been working well. The 5/8oz seems to be better due to the faster fall and being able to pin to the bottom. If you catch a fish stay with them there should be more than one that will bite.
Sunday July 23, 2023
Partial sunshine
Temp: Hi 88˚ Low 67˚
Wind: WNW 6-12 mph
The slab spoon has been working well this summer and in all parts of the lake. A white colored spoon seems to be working best. The Jewel scuba spoon seems to work the best, because of the size. Fish the spoon around larger commercial docks, key in on the shady side of those docks. Make sure to pitch the bait into any open slips. The deep end of the commercial dock needs to be at least 35’-40’ deep and can be as deep as 70’. The spoon fish tend to be 25’-35’ deep in 40’-70’ of water. They can be in open water around the dock as well key on the shady side.
