The plopper bite is good but it takes covering miles to get bites and that depends on the day. Sun really helps to position the fish around cover and large rocks. Fish on shallow gravel banks that have some cover on them. It does not take much wind but just a little wind in on the bank really helps the bite improve. Plan on covering miles of water in a day but also plan on catching keeper size fish all day as well.
Saturday September 14, 2024
Humid and warmer with a blend of sun and clouds.
Temp: Hi 80˚ Low 63˚
Wind: ESE 6-12 mph
The drop-shot bite is probably the most consistent bite going right now. These fish really move from day-to-day it does seem that long gravel points are the best. With so little water being pulled the shad are scattered making it harder to find fish. If you find a small group of fish, they are usually aggressive and active but once you catch a few its time to find a new group. These fish tend to be on or near the bottom in 24’-30’ of water. Shad shaped and colored soft plastic baits seem to be the best right now. Also try white.
Sunday September 15, 2024
Humid with increasing amounts of sunshine.
Temp: Hi 84˚ Low 62˚
Wind: ESE 7-15 mph
There is a shallow bite, but it has challenges. There is a square bill bite in the rivers around wood cover. This is a spot deal not going down a bank. This requires constantly moving to find wood cover, just going down a bank fishing can produce a fish or two but there will be long stretches of nothing. Fish areas with more wood cover and laydowns. You can keep rotating back to those same spots that were fished and catch fish. This bite is driven by wood cover and timing. Use a bright colored 2.5 size square bill and don’t hesitate to move it quickly.
