Sun and some clouds.
Temp: Hi 45˚ Low 20˚
Wind: WNW 14-31 mph
The deep bite is still the best bite, but it is changing daily. The fish are much more scattered and deeper. This is due to the shad being scattered as well. Search for shad that tends to be the key. Target creek arms from the mouth to about halfway back. Most of the fish are suspended in 30’-60’ of water over 70’-100’ of water. On some days the fish will be right on the bottom. The jig head and minnow and the ice jig seem to be working best. Use a smaller profile bait, smaller also seems to be better. Keep searching for new fish all day.
Saturday January 17, 2026
Windy and colder with sunshine and a few clouds.
Temp: Hi 30˚ Low 10˚
Wind: WNW 16-38 mph
The A-rig bite is improving but the right conditions are needed for this to be good. Target main lake and secondary points with timber and brush on them. The fish that will eat the A-rig are in 15’-30’ of water. Some will be on the bottom and others will be higher in the water column. It is very important to keep the A-rig moving to trigger the strikes. Smaller baits are working better. Use 2.8”-3.3” baits in a natural shad color. Using a larger bait in the middle or farthest back does seem to help. Steady retrieve gets the bite. You can get multiple bites in one spot but plan on fishing many spots throughout the day. Windy days really help this bite.
Sunday January 18, 2026
Sunshine.
Temp: Hi 37˚ Low 22˚
Wind: WSW 7-21 mph
There is a jerkbait bite that is solid right now. Target main lake and secondary points throughout the lake that have timber and brush. It is the same area as where to use the A-rig. Wind helps but this bite can be better on a sunny day. The wind needs to be hitting the bank directly. Use your favorite color but it seems the +1 is working best. Don’t get caught staying in one spot too long, fish the point and move on. Some days they want the A-rig some days they want the jerkbait so keep and open mind about both.
