Much colder with clouds yielding to sun.
Temp: Hi 19˚ Low 5˚
Wind: NW 9-21 mph
The jerkbait bite is heating up in the river arms. Focus on steep banks with either standing timber or brushpiles. These fish are positioned near the wood cover. Use forward facing sonar to help see how the fish are positioned, on top of the cover or on the side. The more active fish tend to be on top of the cover. At this time you do not have to let the bait pause for too long. 3-5 seconds seems to be about right.
Saturday January 20, 2024
Cold with plenty of sunshine
Temp: Hi 23˚ Low 13˚
Wind: NNE 5-10 mph
The sun seems to help the deep bite, it gets the shad more active, and this gets the bass more active. Use a Damiki rig near the bottom on the ends of channel swings. Focus on main lake channel swings. These fish are 50’-75’ deep, send the bait to the bottom and work up from there. Stay alert for fish to get active quickly. Shaking the bait or short hops seems to get the bites. It can take working the bait to the get the bites.
Sunday January 21, 2024
Mostly cloudy and cold
Temp: Hi 34˚ Low 28˚
Wind: SE 8-20 mph
The A-rig bite is here. If you like throwing an A-rig it is taking shape. It does take some searching. Focus on steeper banks with standing timber that are 30’-40’ deep. The fish are 15’-25’ deep. These shallower fish are much more active than fish that are deeper. Use forward facing sonar to your advantage to not only locate fish but to get the bait where it needs to get a bite. This is a situation where you have to keep searching for more fish that are active.
