Docks are a big deal right now. The shad spawn continues to be solid but short lived in the mornings. These cloudy days will help the bite to last a little longer. Target main lake banks especially those on points or near a channel swing. Topwater baits are also working and seem to be better on days with less wind. Popper style baits and walk-the-dog baits seem to be the best. White or bone seems to be the color. This bite is driven by the shad, finding active shad is the key. Docks that are more on points especially on cloudy days try a dropshot to catch this fish.

The dock bite is happening all over the lake and is a very consistent bite. Target community or larger docks that are on channel swing banks. This can be in creeks and river arms or on the main lake. This bite is better on sunny days. It’s not that the bite is any better, it’s just that the sun positions these fish in the shady areas of these deeper docks. If it is a cloudy day the fish will be around dock just not as positioned. Use a flutter spoon or jigging spoon to catch these fish under the dock. Watch your line closely these fish are not that deep under the dock. The fish are 6’-10’ deep in water out to 50’. If the fish are around the dock a dropshot or a small swimbait works best to get bites.

With the steady pull of water there is a football jig bite happening in the river arms. These fish are positioned on long roll off gravel points. They are not too deep usually 10’-20’ deep. Use a Jewel Pee Wee football jig to get these bites. Point hop all day long if you find one bite on a specific point there is likely more fish to be caught. This is a timing deal. There at the right time it can be fun.
