The shallow topwater bite is a grind, but fish can be caught. Focus on shallow cover. It seems like wood cover is the best type of cover. Use a plopper or a buzzbait to get bites. This is just a grind but there are better quality fish to catch doing this. The real key to getting bites doing this is cover as much water as possible. Don’t waste time fishing dead water look for shallow cover. It seems darker color baits are better. Shallow wood cover does seem to help position a fish.

Partly sunny with a thunderstorm in areas.
Temp: Hi 73˚ Low 58˚
Wind: E 7-10 mph
The jighead minnow is coming back around since the water has cooled a bit. Look for this fish using FFS in the mouth of creek or in the middle of the creeks. Look for schools of bait fish. These fish are moving fast right now so have the trolling motor on high to stay with them, but they seem easier to catch because of this. These fish are mostly smallmouth and spotted bass.
Sunday October 4, 2026
Plenty of sunshine.
Temp: Hi 78˚ Low 50˚
Wind: NNE 7-14 mph
The shallow jig bite is still happening. Look for the shallowest docks possible and those with longer walkways that have additional floats are the best. These fish are in water less than 5’ deep. Use finesse profile jig up to a 1/2oz jig in size to get these fish to bite. It seems the green and browns are working best. The bass seem to be on a bluegill pattern around the docks. Use a jig with an aggressive trailer that really pushed water. These fish usually bite the bait quickly so make sure to have a soft presentation.
