The glidebait bite is beginning to improve but it is still hit or miss. If you find the right spot you can catch several fish quickly. This is producing better quality fish and the wind and clouds could make this good. With the water being down key on bluff ends that have timber standing specifically cedar trees. If you want to catch fish on the glidebait use it all day long. The fish are shallow less than 10’ deep. Move the bait quickly only a few feet below the surface. Use larger glidebaits in the 7”-10” range. Add a little splash of color near the gill plate.
Saturday October 17, 2026
Plenty of sun.
Temp: Hi 61˚ Low 40˚
Wind: ENE 6-9 mph
The jighead minnow is good right now. This is a numbers game the fish are mostly spots and smallmouth and they are just keeper size fish. These fish are in schools and they are active and moving fast. Using FFS scan the mouth of creeks or in the middle of the creeks where they split. You don’t need to have bait fish in the area but they can help the situation. Look for groups of fish from 3-10 in numbers they will be aggressive and attach the bait quickly. If they don’t move on and find more fish. This bite will slow later in the morning. So do your best to get bites early in the day. Use shad-colored baits.
Sunday October 18, 2026
Mostly sunny.
Temp: Hi 67˚ Low 42˚
Wind: SE 7-13 mph
The shallow topwater bite keeps going. The key is wood cover and larger rocks. These fish are shallow and the bite has seemed to improve with the cooler temperatures. These fish will bite all day long, but you must stay with it. The buzzbait seems to be the better option right now, this is becoming a day-to-day thing. Cover plenty of water focusing on the correct targets. This will get bites. Dark color baits seem best. This bite is better in the river arms and larger creeks.
