There is a day-to-day battle between the single swimbait and the A-rig. So it can take some trial and error as to which bait the fish prefers on a given day. Using a Keitech 2.8 swimbait around standing timber and brushpiles. These fish are on mixed rock and gravel main lake points in only 10’-20’ of water. These fish also seem to like a sunny day and can get active quickly once the sun starts warming. Find the fish using FFS and then cast to the fish.

Pleasant with plenty of sunshine
Temp: Hi 61˚ Low 46˚
Wind: WNW 5-12 mph
This is where the day-to-day guesswork says go with the A-rig. The best A-rig big is not in the exact same spot but both options can be used interchangeably. Use the A-rig on standing timber at the ends of channel swing banks. These can be main lake or in larger creek arms. The fish seem to be 10’-25’. Use FFS to locate fish in the standing timber and target those fish. This can be a search around deal until you find the fish. The A-rig is a great way to catch a big fish right now. Use shad-colored baits on the A-rig.
Sunday February 25, 2024
Warmer with periods of clouds and sunshine
Temp: Hi 72˚ Low 50˚
Wind: SW 9-24 mph
Strong southwest wind after several days of warm sun. This is shaping up to be a Wart/Crawler kind of day. Focus on the river arms and key on steeper banks with the wind blowing directly on the bank. These fish have been a little shallower than expected. The wiggle wart has been more effective with the fish being shallower and more aggressive. This is a good way to catch numbers of fish and the bite should improve as the day progresses. The fish are as shallow as 5’ deep but the key range has been 8’-12’ deep.
