The winter deep bite is starting form it seems the cold snap changed things. The deep shad bite is solid but plan on covering lots of water to find the fish. In the main river channel use your electronics to look for larger groups of deep shad. Plan on having the boat in 100’-200’ of water. The shad could be as shallow as 5’ out to about as deep as 20’. If you see any bass tracking the schools of shad fish for those fish. They are active fish. Use a Damiki rig or small swimbait to get them to bite. Plan on continuously moving throughout the day to find new fish.

Times of clouds and sun
Temp: Hi 59˚ Low 37˚
Wind: ESE 7-14 mph
Go to the most wind-blown banks and throw either a wiggle wart or a rock crawler. It seems the fish are a bit shallower, so the wiggle wart seems a bit better but it’s a personal preference scenario. Use more natural crawfish colors that have some orange in them. Mixed rock banks and channel swing banks seem to be the best. Plan on covering lots of water to get bites. Don’t get caught just going down a bank.

The jigging Rap (ice bait) and spoon bite is along picking up on the deep fish as well. These fish are 60’-80’ deep in water from 60’-120’. Some fish are right on the bottom others are suspended. Look for smaller groups of shad and pods of bass. Use the jigging Rap in a yellow color or the spoon in white. These fish tend to be active and want the bait hopping/jigging. If these fish are really active they will race up to meet the bait as it falls.
