The deep crankbait bite turned on in the rivers this week. When heavy current was being generated the fish would eat the deep crankbait. Being near deeper water was also important. The fish were 12’-20’ deep on gravel. When you caught one fish you would catch a lot of fish and usually quickly. These were also quality fish. The biggest key was really making long casts and cranking the bait as fast as possible and creating a reaction bite. Use colors that have chartreuse in them Sexy Shad and Parrot seem best.

Saturday June 22, 2024

Mostly sunny and very warm.
Temp: Hi 92˚ Low 73˚
Wind: SW 7-20 mph
The summer drop-shot bite is fully engaged. With the water warming so rapidly and the current being slowed it is a likely a thermocline with show up soon.  Drop-shot a small purple worm on points in 25’-35’ of water. This bite is better when they are generating current because it groups up the fish, but generation is not needed to catch these fish. Plan on bouncing from point-to-point to locate active fish. Once located you can stay on catch these fish for a while.

Sunday June 23, 2024

Mostly cloudy, very warm and humid a thunderstorm in spots
Temp: Hi 92˚ Low 70˚
Wind: W 7-10 mph
The Jewel Pee Wee football jig around brush in 15’-25’ feet of water is a very consistent bite right now. The football jig will still work in the rivers, but the brush pile fish seem to be in clearer water. Look for areas that have gravel with more isolated brush piles in 15’-25’ of water. Keep the bait in or near the brush pile to get the bites The bulkier looking the bait the better. Make sure to add a little chartreuse to the pinchers or the whatever trailer is being used.
