Friday January 3, 2025

Some clouds, then sunshine.
Temp: Hi 42˚ Low 29˚
Wind: N 6-10 mph
The swimbait/Damiki bite is here to stay through the winter. There are two places to look for fish. In the large creek arms on the main lake. It seems the main lake fish are more catchable but are harder to locate than the creek fish. Target any groups of bass with shad-colored swimbaits and Damiki rigs. Shad don’t need to present if you find actively cruising bass. However bass that are around shad are more aggressive. The small groups of bass that are higher in the water column are the most catchable fish and most aggressive. Plan on being on the trolling motor and looking at the FFS screen all day.

Saturday January 4, 2025

Cloudy.
Temp: Hi 40˚ Low 34˚
Wind: ESE 8-20 mph
The Rock Crawler bite is pretty good right now. This bite is considerably better when they are pulling water and this positioning the fish, especially in the rivers. On the main river fish 45˚ banks that have larger rocks mixed with them. Really key in on the channel swings at the end of the 45˚ banks. If there is a small gut in the 45˚ bank it also seems the fish can be positioned on either of the little points that is created. These fish are consistently in 6’-8’ of water or less. Cloudy and windy days help this bite. Use crawfish-colored Rock Crawlers crankbaits.

Sunday January 5, 2025

Rain and a thunderstorm, breezy in the afternoon.
Temp: Hi 38˚ Low 14˚
Wind: SE 13-30 mph
This is the type of day a jerkbait can shine. Fish windblown points and bluff ends. This is a spot hopping deal, so plan on moving all day long to keep getting bites. Key on bluff ends with timber. It seems like a jerkbait with a small amount of bright color helps, a little red or chartreuse seems to help. There is no real pauseing the jerkbait, keep it moving. Use a steady twitch twitch twitch to trigger strikes. Use fluorocarbon line and a bait that can reach depths of 8’-10’ deep.
