I own a 2020 Nitro Z21 boat, equipped with a Minn Kota Ultrex 112 lb thrust trolling motor, which has been in use for five years. As a guide on Table Rock Lake, it has undergone extensive use and abuse. Over the years, I have replaced several components, which was relatively straightforward. The initial replacement was the foot control sensor in year one, which I believe was due to a design flaw. In year three, I replaced the main board in the foot pedal, followed by the control head, which required professional assistance from Ulrich Marine. The most recent replacement was the main arm bushings, a relatively simple process that yielded noticeable improvements. After five years, I have invested approximately $2,500 in repairs. In retrospect, I could have considered replacing the trolling motor when the control head failed. Nevertheless, I am satisfied with the performance of the Minn Kota Ultrex, and I believe that the majority of the replaced parts have been upgraded to address original quality defects. Notably, my trolling motor batteries are still the original Interstates, but I plan to replace them with a 36-volt lithium battery when they eventually fail.
